My Review: Multi-orgasmic
I've read A LOT about Franz Kafka.
I've put off reading 'The Metamorphosis' for 20 years because I was waiting to be in a strong enough head space to read it.
The head space never came and I read it anyway. Finished it a few hours ago.
I wish I'd waited another 20 years!
Here's a quick review.
This book absolutely devastated me.
I'm going through a mild depression right now and I'm really not sure if this was a good book to read...
Gregor Samsa is a salesman who works himself into the ground, day in, day out -- to look after his family (his mother, father and sister).
One day he wakes up to find that his physical body has metamorphosed into a vermin (what I took to be the manifestation of his shit life).
The utter sadness I felt for Gregor (who reminded me of an 'average Joe') who spends their whole life working in a job that they hate and paying bills. Never living their dreams.
(Most of the population are LIVING like this right now. Scary stuff!)
Anyhow, once Gregor transforms into a bug - his father, mother and sister basically wash their hands of him. Like energy vampires they sucked him dry until he was no longer of any use to them.
This book is full of hopelessness and it's so well written, that it just floors you. I was sobbing.
This book is absolutely heartbreaking. I will NEVER read it again.
My name is Vanessa de Largie. When I'm not fucking, you'll find me reading.
